Why you Must Get a Website Designed for your Business

August 5th, 2010 Baddog No comments

A website is now an integral part of a small business. Michael Dell, who founded the Dell Corporation, was quoted as saying, “Show me a business that’s not on the Internet, and I’ll show you a business that’s out of touch with the future.”

Dell is right on the money with this analysis.  Any business without a website today is like a business without a telephone 30 years ago.  Today people expect all businesses to have a website.   Typically they may use a search engine like Google, Yahoo or Bing to find a company when seeking information about the products and services that local businesses offer.

If you have a web designer that is knowledgeable of  (SEO) Search Engine Optimization and adding your business to local search maps you can increase your business exposure to customers that have never heard of you.

For most people searching for a company and services this is often their first stop in seeking information about products and services offered by you.  If they don’t find a website they may well choose another company.

Just Because it’s Expensive – Doesn’t make it Good.

Just because it’s expensive, doesn’t make it good…….. or worth it.
Recently I was have having a conversation with a friend about a local website that we were looking through.  My friend told me that the owner of this particular business (I won’t mention the name)  just paid a small fortune to have their website refurbished and it was going to be great as soon as it was finished. She said it was going to be high tech and really cool.  I asked when that was going to happen. She said that they hired the company a few months ago so it should be soon.  Here is where I question this mentality.  Not that my friend is not business savvy, but when did expensive and waiting a long time for delivery become the standard for business?  As a business owner, and a client to other businesses, my expectation is that I will get what I pay for, and I will get it in a reasonable amount of time.  It’s like those people in a restaurant that order the most expensive thing on the menu because it has to be good if it costs the most right?  Or the person that drinks Cristal champagne at $300/$400 a bottle because that’s what the Hollywood stars drink.  Personally, I think it tastes like……. well I won’t say it here, but you get the idea.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that we are in the web design business and we have many small family owned businesses as clients.  We don’t charge a fortune even though we could.  We give great service for affordable prices with a fast turn around time so remember, more doesn’t always mean better…………

Browsers

Have you ever heard your friends say “I use Mozilla, Opera or Safari” and known what they were talking about?

There is more to browsing the World Wide Web than just Internet Explorer.  Faster browsers with more functional options and best of all………THEY ARE FREE!

If you have a website our you’re having one built.  Make sure you ask your web designer if the website they are building is compatible with the browsers listed below.   Most designers build with Internet Explorer in mind.  If you don’t ask, chances are your web designer won’t ensure your website is compatible with Mozilla, Safari or Opera.

www.mozilla.com (Be sure to check out their email add on Thunderbird as an alternative to Outlook)

www.apple.com/safari (If you’re a Windows user that want a taste of MAC try out this browser)

www.opera.com (Fast, lightweight and a lot of very user friendly free products)

Add Youtube tab to Facebook

Everyday users of Facebook may not know of the many Applications available to them.

This is a great way to share Youtube videos using this user friendly Facebook Application http://apps.facebook.com/youtubebox

This is one of the many useful social networking applications on Facebook that I would encourage people to use to drive traffic to their website or blog.

After allowing the application to run go back to your wall and add the tab to your wall navigation page.

Share and Enjoy!
